Malaysia began aggressively exporting durians to China because it sees a huge market there. They hope to replace Thailand which has received the title as the number one seller of durian.
According to BBC news station, 7 September 2011, farmers in the southern Malaysian durian hope the Chinese middle class will start switching to buy their products.
"Our Durian is the best and nobody can match," said Lim Siong Kock, an ethnic Chinese Malaysian durian farmer. "We are introducing our durians to China because it is a huge market for us.
"If they love durian us, it will be a big impact on our farmers durian," said Lim, who has a durian plantation in Johor. So far, Malaysian durians are the largest market in Singapore.
Malaysia, which began to export durians to China since August 15 this year, hopes eventually could replace Thailand as the most famous durian seller. Malaysian durian believe they are the most delicious in the world, so they want to introduce it to the Bamboo Curtain country.
To support the plan, the National Farm Products Marketing Malaysia plans to re-supply the durians to China in September. They believe, effective way to make the famous durian.
"With rising incomes and population of China, the demand for fruit has increased. For farmers Malaysia, this is clearly a new market," said Tai Hui, head of Standard Chartered Bank's research body parts of Southeast Asia.
