Tax Lightweight, Twitter Open Office in Ireland

Twitter, the popular micro-blogging site based in San Francisco soon open their international offices in Dublin, Ireland. Thus, they joined with Dell, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Intel, and a number of other companies that have opened offices there.

Twitter plans to open an office was revealed by the Industrial Development Agency (IDA), Ireland and investment promotion agencies.



"IDA happy, Twitter has decided to open an international office in Ireland," says Barry O'Leary, chief executive of IDA, as quoted by News24, Wednesday, September 28, 2011. "Twitter more dynamic enrich the digital media and we will fully support their growth," he said.

IDA said, foreign companies interested in opening a representative office in Ireland is due to corporate tax of 12.5 percent. It is a tax of one of the lightest in the whole of Europe.

As is known, when expanded out of the United States, Twitter has opened representative offices in London and Tokyo. Although the previously existing offices in Europe, but Tony Wang, general manager of United Kingdom Twitter mentions, an office in Dublin was not meant to replace office in London.

"Office in the UK will remain open. So, we still have offices in London and in Dublin, "said Wang.

Ireland, the decade that began mid-1990s had experienced double-digit economic growth. However, lately, the country suffered a blow due to the collapsing property market and rising unemployment.

Last November, they get 85 billion euros aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Union in order to get out of their huge debts. The decision was under pressure from fellow European countries because it provides convenience that is not fair on the Irish. Moreover, Dublin are increasingly trying to set a fixed corporate tax rate of 12.5 percent.
