There
is a sharp contrast to the deaths of two great men of the world
recently: Libyan leader, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi and Saudi Crown Prince
Sultan bin Abdul Aziz. The first is the ultimate joke, while the latter is a form of decadent gerontokrasi. For the nation of Libya, death is liberation. While for the citizens of Saudi Arabia, death becomes unstuck.
However,
the death of the emperor at the age of 86 years marked the beginning of
critical period for the uncertainty of domestic and foreign affairs of
the Saudi kingdom. In addition, half brother Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, King Abdullah, 87, is still undergoing post-operative treatment in Riyadh. The regime is now rusted and sickly.
Meanwhile, the change of power is still being debated. At
the Sultan's death, this is the first time for the Saudi royal burial
delay in order to give time for the royal family to determine the
successor to the Emperor. It was a sign of discord in the family (and correspondence as well as a continuation of the dynasty).
The
stability of the Saudi regime now relies on its ability to maintain
unity and change of power system allows the explicitness diusungnya. With
the death of the Crown Prince, the real divisions that threaten the
sustainability of the kingdom (which is also related to oil exports)
because of the ruling Al Saud family has had 22,000 members. This situation gives room for the growing dispute between the hungry notch.
The Sultan has long been dead, that is for three years. Surely political death. In June last, when he went to New York, USA, for treatment, the young Saudi speculate on many web sites that he actually died. The
successor to Abdullah, the average age of 80-90 years, remembering the
last days of the Soviet Union as a leader of the frail forward positions
other leaders who are also vulnerable in a short period. In Saudi Arabia, many see that the pattern is transmitted to the country.
Far worse, had no clear rules of succession. Occupies
the throne after Abdullah, Fahd, who had led for 23 years until he
finally died in 2005, he created the Compliance Board. The council considered mysterious and resembles the Cardinal at the Vatican Council. But in Saudi Arabia, the restrictions do not fully based on age but pedigree. Compliance
Board includes 43 hereditary prince Ibn Saud, founder of the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia, and the sons of Ibn Saud siblings who had died. For example, sons of King Faisal.
But,
along with the deteriorating health of the emperor, Abdullah denied
bentukannya council and appoint Prince Naif, the interior minister as
second deputy. In other words, will be appointed as Crown Prince. However, Naif, now 82 years old, known to suffer from leukemia.
The Sultan's wealth estimated at U.S. $ 270 billion. He
distributed his wealth to his son before his death in order to
strengthen their political position in the arena of the princes. In practice, every senior prince of the sons had put their pet in important positions in the Kingdom. Sultan gave positions in the ministries of defense for Khaled, son. Bandar, the brother of Khaled, was appointed head of the Intelligence Security Council. Abdullah secures the position of head of the National Guard. Candidates Crown Prince, Naif, has promised his son, Muhammad, Minister of Home Affairs office.
In
short, instead of Abdullah innovation in the process of succession,
it's no secret that no one was able to ensure the smooth transition of
power to the younger generation. The story of the Al Saud family succession struggle is no longer a mere whisper. The Internet has opened a window for a broad audience to know the will, ambition and family business empire.
Breeds like Al Saud family business, which began in 1932. Ibn Saud managed to conquer and unify the vast Arabian Peninsula. He
then put the family name to the peninsula, and then separating and
controlling cousins and other relatives to pave a clear line of
succession who fell to his children. After Ibn Saud's death, his children, although not entirely compact, quite able to work together in order to maintain revenue. The situation could not continue in the era of the princes who numbered in the thousands. Coincided with the disappearance of the older generation, their descendants are now even openly hostile.
With
the ratio of the prince and the general public one in a thousand
(compared with the UK which recorded one in five million), the challenge
of managing privileges, salaries and employment for the princes
increasingly fierce. The members of the royal benefit from the incentives for life and a variety of positions in government agencies. Positions that allow them to secure the contract and receive a commission.
Saudi regime disunity. Now questioned its legitimacy. Increased sectarian turmoil. Furthermore, while revenues from oil exports sharply shot, the countries around Saudi middle rekindle the fire of revolution. In the near future, Naif that the iron, will push the Kingdom into the abyss of oppression. One of them by strengthening the position of Wahhabi clerics in the circle of power. Gelontoran money backed by Wahabi teachings will be prepared in order to silence protest. While Abdullah has at least raised the question of reform (though reality says another), Naif did not bring up the matter.
Denial is still the dominant mindset of the rulers of Arabia. Members
of the kingdom believes that the maintenance of their land as sacred
land of the Muslims to give to give a special status in the Arab world. Thus, the revolution will not happen to them. And if anyone tries, they will follow the advice of Naif: "What we seized the sword, we shall defend with the sword."
Across the Arab region, Arab youths trying to bring their country toward reform and liberalization. Saudi Arabia, unfortunately, moving in the opposite direction.
