Hippies The 60s Era (Flower Power)At the end of the decade of the 1960s, In the American West, especially in the city of San Francisco in the state of California, there was a massive protest young people against all forms of organized and expect the occurrence of social and political change. This protest movement, among others, led to generation of the famous Hippies.


Movement of the 1960s that arose in the West coast of the United States is famous for its variety of forms of protest such as al: Beatnik & Social Protest Movement. Actually, the forerunner of the protest movement that began among the artists who lived in Bohemia commune (community) in San Francisco (north beach), Los Angeles, Venice West, & Greenwich in New York. This movement is characterized by social and literary movements are limited in the decade of the 1950s, and claiming to be 'beat generation' which later became known as the "beatniks."Beatniks originally non-political and just want to distinguish themselves with the general public by resigning from public life. They practiced free life by dressing casually and tried to free himself from the chaos of the world through the channels of music, art, vegetarian food, and psychedelic experiences with Zen Buddhism and meditation experiments drugs.The movement was spearheaded by the young generation later in the 1960's expanded out of their environment and they deliver a mass social protest, among others, the movement for political reform, including as an anti-Vietnam War movement which was more crowded, human rights, student movement, the women's movement, gay rights movement, and movement environmental preservation.Of the protest movement of the 1960s it grew a group of Hippies who have characteristics, ie: the popularization of the peace movement, aware of the environment, and rejection of Western materialism. The movement that grew in the city of San Francisco is also called as' Flower Power 'and' Flower Generation "because the demos they do they usually carry colorful flowers as a symbol of love and peace. They're being counter-cultural (counter-culture) who tried to change an established culture in the materialistic society around them with loose cultural attitudes that they want as a reaction.Hippies have characteristics different from the typical external public, they wear colorful clothing inspired hallucinations are seen when smoking drug type Marijuana & LSD. Besides the expression in their dress, seen also in art and music they produce. Usually they live according to general categories as 'sloppy' is casually dressed, unshaven hair is left long, the male beard, while the women dressed in old-fashioned long until ketumit.Hippies tend to live alone in life together and trying to get out of a formal life, both from traditional kinship system, employment, education, and community life and nation at large. They used to eat a vegetarian and eating unprocessed foods and practicing alternative medicine. They also dubbed as the 'Flower Children' (children's interest). Hippies advocated openness and tolerance as opposed to vice versa are common in formal society full of competition. They openly practicing free sex, live in familial forms of nontraditional as in the commune (community living together in a group).And one of the attitude of their protest is a protest against the religion of the American who was then didominasikan by the Christian church that has become a middle-class church. The protest is expressed by opening ourselves to the teachings of Eastern mysticism, especially Buddhism, believe astrology, shamanic practice the other, until the church of Satan. All this is known as 'The Aquarius' as a symbol of the coming of the 'New Age' (new age).New Age Movement (New Age Movement) develops from here as an attitude of protest against the established culture of the Graeco-Roman-Christian tradition and western, including modernism, and longed for the return of pre-modern culture with its ancient wealth (mainly mystic east) which later became known as the cultural posmo (post modernism ).Folk and Rock became part of the life of this flower generation. Famous band that time is 'The Beatles' and 'Rolling Stone'. In 1967, Pop music group 'The Beatles' influenced the teachings of Buddhism and sit under Mahareshi Mahesy Yogis of India and joined the popularization of culture through their performances Hippies, including the year they mengelurkan album 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 'which signifies changes in their music from Pop to Rock, and symbolically identified with the culture of the Beatles Hippies. As for other famous musicians such as Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.Peak movement occurred in the years 1967-1969 Hippies who mengkulminasi the Woodstock music festival in New York (1969) which was attended by an estimated half a million people.
