The U.S. government disburse funds of U.S. $ 5 million (Rp44, 8 billion) at the Putera Sampoerna Foundation. Funds derived from public-private partnership between USAID, UBS, Raiffeisen Bank, and Putera Sampoerna Foundation will be used as a soft loan fund long-term education in Indonesia.
"This loan program is our commitment to improving educational opportunities for young people of Indonesia. The program is a public-private partnership is very good between the U.S. government with the private sector in Indonesia," said U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia, Scot Marciel, in Bogor on Wednesday, October 5, 2011.
According Marciel, there are two reasons that make the U.S. interest to disburse funds to help education in Indonesia. First, Indonesia has shown an encouraging development as a democracy. Second, Marciel said, because education is the most important things in human life.
"In the U.S. the challenges we face in education is enormous. We are very happy to assist Indonesia to become more committed to education," he said.
According to Ministry of National Education in 2010, economic factors become obstacles most of Indonesian youth to continue their education. Therefore, this grant will help children from families prasejahtera achievers can continue to keep education.
"Through student loans, we expect there will be more talented students can achieve their dreams," said Putera Sampoerna Foundation's founder, Putera Sampoerna. These funds will become part of the Son Nations Fund initiative which was an attempt Putera Sampoerna Foundation.
