Doel, Cheap Laptops Made in Bangladesh

Although known as one of the world's poorest countries, Bangladesh proved itself able to innovate. Laptop with brand "Doel" is proof that Bangladesh can make your own laptop.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina even introduced directly Doel. Doel introductory event was conducted in a ceremony at the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka on Tuesday.

This laptop is manufactured by Telephone Shilpa Sangstha (TSS) of Bangladesh, with four different models. Doel is referred to as the world's cheapest laptop, which is 10,000 taka or approximately U.S. $ 130 (Rp1, 2 million) for the main model, based Android operating system.

"This is a major step in building a digital Bangladesh. When the villages can be a laptop with low price, they can connect to the internet and it will produce many benefits," said Managing Director of TSS, Mohammad Ismail.
This laptop will also be distributed to a number of government offices. After that, just Doel will be available to the public.

Ismail later said the current raw material for a new laptop that comes from 10 percent in the country. The rest is imported. "But in the next six months we will be able to produce 60 percent of its components," he said.
But now Bangladesh is still weary of managing the Internet network. Because the network is still slow, some observers even doubted Doel could help digital development in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh government itself declared in 2021 as the target total Bangladesh will be connected digitally.
"Each region will run the e-governance, while the telecommunications system will be modernized to reduce the digital separation," said the PM of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, when introducing Doel.
